INSTALLING LED MODULES
If at first glance, the installation of the Permlight LEDs seems a daunting task, Applelec Sign Components provide a user friendly, step by step installation guide with photographs to assist you. However, should you require further assistance our technical support team are always happy to help and can be contacted on +44 (0)1274 774477.
STEP 1
CLEANING
Clean and Dry the letter or mounting surface where the LED modules are to be placed using an alcohol or oil free cleaner.
STEP 2 (Optional BUT Recommended)
Check the position of the LEDs in the letters first. If you are not familiar with LED lighting it may be best to use masking tape on the LED wires to mock up their positions first, and then test the illumination.
STEP 3
REMOVE TAPE
Remove the double sided tape from the LED module and place in the letter. Apply gentle pressure for 10-15 seconds to be sure the LED Module is firmly mounted. Repeat this process until you have reached the end of your letter.
STEP 4
CONNECTOR FOR WIRING*
At the last LED module in the letter, cut the wires but make sure a portion of each wire is left to allow for a wire extension to be added for wiring within the letter or back to the power supply. Make sure there are no exposed wires left which would otherwise touch the metal letter, causing a short.
STEP 5
POWER SUPPLY
Run the wire extensions to the power supply, instructions for wiring are provided in the box. If for example you are performing a retrofit, you can use the holes already provided by the neon power source for the LED wiring.
Troubleshooting
Below are some scenarios and answers for some common problems that can occur in the field. If however, you are experiencing problems that are not listed below, please contact our technical services department on +44 (0)1274 774477.
1. Sign not lighting up.
Check polarity, make sure the white and grey wires are connected to the positive and negative respectively.
2. Flashing Sign.
If a Power Supply is over loaded the LEDs will flash. Make sure you have the proper load on each Power Supply.
3. Dimming of the LEDs towards the end of the run.
Over loading of the power supply.
Too much secondary wire which is causing a voltage drop.
4. Hot and cold spots on Built Up letter faces.
Check the position of the LEDs in the letters. If you are not familiar with LED lighting it may be best to use masking tape on the wires of the LED modules to mock up their positions first, and then test, before removing the double sided adhesive and permanently taping the modules in place.
